Chapter 11
To Say Goodbye Is to Die a Little
Grandma's life was both ordinary and extraordinary: she was born in a humble thatched cottage in a poor village, yet she challenged the bias against girls and continued her education despite numerous hurdles. From a young age, she dedicated herself to teaching in rural classrooms for over four decades, igniting hope in disadvantaged children with her special corn cob teaching tools, balancing her duties between the classroom and family responsibilities. In her middle years, she showed kindness to her students and supported her family. Even in her later years, she valued education and inspired me, planting seeds of perseverance, dedication, and kindness in my heart. Without grand tales, she became a faint light on the teacher's platform, a guiding star in her students' minds, and a source of warmth for her family through her persistence and love.
"To say goodbye is to die a little."
Saying goodbye meant letting part of myself die with her. But in that loss, something quieter and stronger was born. Her light passed into the lives she touched. Her story ended. But the echo never will. Her love will resound, endlessly.
